Architecting new applications is easy; architecting existing applications to understand its current state to ensure new requirements can be architected effectively is not so easy. The tendency for developers is to want to rewrite the application (so I was told by this client). The Buildirect application is an evolved combination of ASP, VBScript, Javascript with a Visual Basic desktop application (for which they did not have the source code). I had to understand, and master it, to fulfill new requirements. With a full understanding of the existing system and a clear understanding of their vision statement, I was not only able to quickly comply with their new requirements, but also have been able to move them forward into the .NET 2.0 platform - the entire time keeping them informed allowing them to make educated decisions about their product (versus taking my word for it). This demo displays the desktop application, writtin in C# .NET 2.0, utilizing web services to interface to the internet application (streamline project setup of construction tasks).
